Pa-Kom-Rabai

Farmers in Tagrin village celebrated the success of the rice production project by inaugurating Art as town chief. After a welcome procession, they dressed us in traditional chief outfits. Art’s name became Pa-kom-rabai, which means something like “head of chiefs.” Since it was ceremonial, the actual Paramount Chief didn’t object. In a patriarchal cultural, it was unsurprising when Suzanne was named Yabomposay, which means “chief’s wife.” It was an amazing experience with singing, dancing, and lots of food.
