This isn’t our story, but we are in awe of what happened. We went to a rural hospital with Robert Search of Mariatu’s Hope to see a little boy named Peter. Peter was sitting in the dust beside Robert’s truck when Robert found him. Robert learned that Peter was an abandoned child. People in his village, even family members, believed Peter was a witch child. It was obvious that Peter had been in this situation for some time. Robert took Peter to the hospital for care but was unsure of the next step. He hoped we might be able to care for Peter, but we didn’t have the resources to help a child with such special needs.
Robert and his wife Ruth didn’t give up. A woman took Peter into her home and began caring for him. His recovery was so stunning that he named himself “Miracle.” Today he is a healthy boy attending school and strong in his Christian faith. Robert, Ruth, and Peter inspire us not to give up.
