Suzanne Pitz, Director of Operations

Suzanne is knee-deep in all White Field Partners projects from the first glimmer of an idea to the final report. She handles research, planning, communication, and evaluation in cooperation with officers, directors, and partners. She has been in Sierra Leone six time and experienced both the joys and anguish of life and work there. She enjoys telling about babies screaming when they caught sight of her because they had never seen white skin.

The photo was taken in Makeni in Bombali District. Suzanne was helping pound the ingredients for a stew to be served with rice. The chicken legs at her feet were going to be used somehow.

Suzanne graduated from the University of Iowa with an MA degree in Instructional Design and Technology. She lived and taught with her husband Art for three academic years in Slovakia. She is the author of How to Change the World Two Feet at a Time and a Presbyterian Deacon. Most importantly, she is a wife, mother, grandmother, and advocate for social and environmental justice living in Elmhurst, Illinois. She now has white hair.
