Goshen Honey Project

In cooperation with Village Hope Inc., we trained nearly 300 farmers near Thonkomba village in Bombali District to build beehives from readily available natural materials. It was a nearly perfect project because farmers had no costs other than their labor, and some of them were able to increase their income by twenty-five percent. Except for the hives that burned when trees caught fire, the hives can continue to produce honey for multiple seasons. We hope to extend this project to the area of Mabamba village where we recently rehabilitated a well. Samuel Turay helped manage the Goshen Honey Project.

Here’s the first of the honey harvest. One of the large families pooled their honey income to buy a motorcycle for a young man named Issa, who earns money as an okada rider. An okada is a motorcycle taxi. They are popular because they are inexpensive transport and can maneuver through heavy traffic to take passengers to their destinations in a timely manner.
